A Sense of Time Passing
In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

Still not rescued, I watch
wild birds disdain my privet’s
berries, black like buttons
of a too-early prince caught
in Sleeping Beauty's briar.

Its spindle-shaped flowers
are spilling a fragrance
like soporific wine,
as if dandelions
and violets might escape

the lawn through branches knit
with leaves that fold on midribs
like tiny yawns guarding
the sleep of a hundred
suburban Novembers.
