In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

Glint of silver off the frozen Volga.
Her burnt-out stove cold
companion to the girl
crouched behind,
silver with fear, eyes
frozen on the bullets
shooting through the door.
She is not running to take her place at the guns.
She is not like her neighbors,
resolute in their flinty Russian blood.
Outside the stiffening carcasses
mix into rubble
eight meters high.
The world will end and not end.
On Groundhog Day
the battle will be over,
casting a thin silver glare,
a shadow of winter, not spring.
It is impossible to imagine
this girl in a future, only a silver
penumbra of grief and time, glinting
like the rusty metal splinters
and bits of bone
one will find to this day
in the hills above the city.
