Vladimir Nabokov: La poétique du masque (review)

From: Nabokov Studies
Volume 6, 2000/2001
pp. 203-207 | 10.1353/nab.2011.0001

In lieu of an abstract, here is a brief excerpt of the content:

Footnotes

1. Examples of the latter are Jean Blot's biography Nabokov (Paris: Seuil, 1995) and Dominique Desanti's Vladimir Nabokov (Paris: Julliard, 1994), self-described in the subtitle as "essais et rêves" [essays and dreams]. Both books are reviewed in Nabokov Studies 3 (1996). Blot's book, if general, is not bad. Desanti's is less about Nabokov than about Desanti's fantasized version of Nabokov.

2. There should be a college course, mandatory for all Ph.D. candidates in literature and related fields, on deciding what not to cite.

3. Raguet-Bouvart, Christine. "Camera Obscura et Laughter in the Dark, ou La confusion des textes," in La lecture du texte traduit (Paris: Presses de la Sorbonne Nouvelle, 1995), Palimpsestes no. 9, 119-34. English translation available in ZEMBLA: <www.libraries.psu.edu/iasweb/nabokov/nsintro.htm>.

4. For a discussion of the parallels between Nabokov's critical commentary to Eugene Onegin and Pale Fire, see for example Iurii Levin, "Bispatsial'nost' kak invariant poeticheskogo mira V. Nabokova," Russian Literature 28 (1990), 45-124. See especially 71-4.
