From: Journal of the History of Ideas
Volume 74, Number 3, July 2013
pp. 473-495 | 10.1353/jhi.2013.0026

This article analyses the main topics of Ernst Cassirer’s philosophy: the “unity of culture,” the “history of philosophy,” “philosophical anthropology,” and “political philosophy.” At the center of the essay are the new edition of Cassirer’s collected works, the twenty volumes of the “Hamburger Edition,” and new volumes of the “Nachlass-Edition,” both published by the Meiner Publishing House, Hamburg. The essay also offers a review of new English literature on Cassirer and emphasizes the importance and the relevance of Cassirer’s thought today.
