Visual Theology: Reading the Text of One Marian Altar

From: American Catholic Studies
Volume 124, Number 3, Fall 2013
pp. 99-107 | 10.1353/acs.2013.0044

The visual “text” of the interior environment and one particular Marian altar at St. Cecilia parish in the “minority majority” Archdiocese of Los Angeles is the starting point for reflection about the present American church, its history, its changing demographics, and the shifting theological, cultural, and generational patterns of American Catholic life. Several pastoral and theological implications of this observed change are suggested.
