After arranging for the engraving of and then delivering the Distinguished Service Award plaque for 6 years, Elliot McIntire was presented with his own at the San Luis Obispo Meeting. Elliot's varied contributions to the Association over the years make him richly deserving of this award.

Since joining the APCG in1967, he has presented 10 papers at annual meetings, dealing mainly with his interests in Hopi and Navajo land, biogeography, and public lands. He served as local arrangements chair for the 1994 Northridge meeting, held on schedule 5 months after the earthquake that severely damaged the campus and necessitated scrambling for a new meeting venue. He was vice president of APCG from 1994 to 1995 and president from 1995 to 1996, capping his term with a presentation on Linnaeus's geographical legacy.

Elliot's dedication has not been limited to the APCG. Over the years he has edited The California Geographer (1970–74, 1991–95) and Historical Geography (1982–92), and was president of the Los Angeles Geographical Society in 1990. Elliot served as chair of the Department of Geography at CSUN from 1974 to 1976, was interim associate dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (1997–99, 2002–04), and was on the Statewide Academic Senate. He is appreciated by hundreds of students who have taken his classes in world regional, cultural, and historical geography, and in soils and vegetation.

Elliot retired last year and is now enjoying life in Eugene, Oregon. The Association takes this opportunity to thank him for his many years of service and to wish him well in wetter environs.
