Comments A number of writers, chiefly poets, generously took time from their own work to respond to my request for comments on the practice of alluding. Some wrote to say they could not write, but wrote so well that I asked if I might extract from a letter (Anthony Hecht) or print a very short statement. I am grateful to all contributors, here and elsewhere. (Ee) A.R. AMMONS ... I have a little poem called 'Oops' ... about alluding that tells my story. ... What it says is that I've done what I could to wipe out rn~~ of the western traditions by failing to refer to them. So, there is little talk of places & people & events in my work. I try to start over with a clean slate - rocks, trees, hills, sky; the pagan. So I hate all alluding that alludes. My, my.... Oops The only way to do anything at all about all of western culture is to fail to refer to it. ... PS I don't know your lingo but the title Oops for me means I mistakenly referred to western culture in saying I don't refer to it.
