Rajat had a colossal sense of pride in himself, which must rest in heart as well as mind; a certainty about his perceptions, his intelligence. He injected us all with it, this intoxicating distillation of intellect and compassion, of elegance and arrogance, of honesty and wit. The binding energy for and of all was loyalty, which he offered in abundance and durability, and expected in turn, with Neogian ferocity.

Rajat, when I met him, wore pin-striped suits, and discarded the predictable tie for finely colored and drawn silk scarves of Madras, which he wore Winsor-knotted and flowing outrageously in the English wind. I had never seen anyone dress the same, and over the years I still think of trying it, but know that only he could carry it off.
