This paper introduces some strands of thought that may account for Foucault thinking along the lines of post-modernity: existential concern with his homosexuality, Nietzschean ideas on transvaluing and overcoming of ressentiment, interest in Zen Buddhism and process thought, and an openness to cultural history and non-linear thinking.
