Abstract

We present a conversation/interview measure for evaluating the communicative competence of deaf adolescents and adults. We also describe (a) the rationale behind its development; (b) its independence, by design, of the subjects language variety, channel, or intemingling of the two; and (c) its use in a study of 40 deaf adolescents, the findings of which support the reliability and validity of this “language-fair” measure of communicative competence.
