Abstract

Some aspects of the Jewish response to Byzantine rule among the communities of southern Italy during the eighth through the eleventh centuries can be found in the midrash aggadat bereshit, Sepher Yosippon, and Megillat Ahimaaz. The paper will look for echoes of the midrash in Sepher Yosippon in an attempt to uncover some sources of this incomparable history of the Second Temple Period.
