Bruce Allen, an independent critic and scholar, has contributed reviews and essays to this magazine since 1974.

Marlin Barton has previously published fiction in the SR—two stories about the Civil War.

Warner Berthoff’s last piece published in this quarterly was devoted to the criticism of Edmund Wilson.

Thomas Bontly, a critic and fiction writer, has published an essay on Wallace Stegner in this magazine as well as other reviews and short fiction.

Robert Buffington is completing his biography of Allen Tate, of which several segments have been published in the SR.

John J. Clayton’s fiction has appeared in these pages in the past, and his collected stories, Wrestling with Angels, was released in 2007.

Giles Fowler’s story “Antic Light” was published in the fall 2003 number of the SR. His Deaths on Pleasant Street will be published by the Truman State University Press in September.

David Heddendorf, who has written on John Updike previously for this quarterly, is also a contributor to the Southern Review and other quarterlies.

Jean Ross Justice has published stories in Shenandoah, the Yale Review, the Southwest Review, and other magazines. A book of her short fiction has just been released by the University of Tampa Press.

Norman Kelvin, who has retired from City College and the Graduate Center in New York City, is chiefly known for his editing of William Morris’s letters. He has also published books on George Meredith and E. M. Forster.

Mairi MacInnes, a woman of letters, has published poetry, essays, reviews, and now fiction in the Sewanee Review.

Ed Minus has several items forthcoming in the SR, including reviews and a story.

John Rees Moore has been reviewing and writing essays for this magazine since 1963. He has a special interest in Coetzee and Banville.

Merritt Moseley’s latest report on the Booker Prize competition is forthcoming. His Booker Prize Novels was published by Thomson Gale in 2006.

Nancy Huddleston Packer has published over fifty short stories, and her fiction has been appearing in the SR since 1982.

Sanford Pinsker’s reviews and essays have appeared in a wide variety of periodicals, including the Georgia Review.

Andrew Plattner is a fiction writer whose favorite subject is horse racing. His The Kentucky Derby Vault: A History of the Run for the Roses was released in March by Whitman Publishing.

Earl Rovit, a novelist, critic, and scholar, has published essays (especially reminiscences) and reviews in the SR for many years. He lives in Manhattan.

Floyd Skloot, an independent man of letters, has published poetry, fiction, and reminiscences in many different periodicals and has also written several books of autobiography, poetry, and fiction.

Richard Stern had an essay on friendship in the winter issue of this magazine, and a book of his short fiction was recently reviewed in these pages by Bruce Allen.

Gladys Swan is a poet, a painter, an essayist, and a fiction writer. Her latest book of stories is reviewed in this issue.

Jacob White, a new contributor, lives and writes in Trumansburg, New York.
