This essay examines the alternative narrative that was developed during the signing of the 1993 Oslo accords between Israeli and Palestinian officials. Within this new narrative, the direct Palestinian-Israeli struggle was rendered secondary, whereas a new dichotomy between "peacemakers" and "the enemies of peace" was emphasized. In addition, the terms of the traditional debate abandoned a historical-religious grounding and began to focus on a more practical-economic perspective.
