The following ref lections began as a roundtable symposium on continental and feminist philosophical pedagogy at the 2011 annual meeting of philoSOPHIA.

These Reflections on Pedagogy raise important questions about how philosophical traditions get constructed, what they mean, and how they presuppose and regulate social and political experience, all of which affect the practice of critique. Perhaps the most important common feature of these reflections is the emphasis on critical dialogue within the classroom in order to facilitate a community of inquiry. In such a community the received truths of philosophy are problematized rather than simply adopted. Our emphasis on the centrality of dialogue within the classroom nevertheless acknowledges that such pedagogical practice will contend with irreducible social and cultural forces, constantly redrawing the very maps of meaning, desire, and difference inscribed within education.
