Abstract

The introduction provides the context for this special issue, namely, an international conference held in February 2012 at the University of Venice, Ca’ Foscari, “Philip Roth between Past and Future: Literature, History, and Ethics.” The conference, as well as this special issue of Philip Roth Studies, underscores a growing transatlantic emphasis on Roth. The essays that follow demonstrate an assortment of critical approaches and a variety of thematic concerns.
