It is with pride and optimism that we present this inaugural issue of Ohio History under the Kent State University Press imprint. The journal will be an annual, published each spring and available by subscription. In bringing this venerable journal back into print, we wish to thank the Ohio Historical Society for its many years of stewardship, Dr. Shirley Wajda for keeping Ohio History's heart beating between editors, and the journal's new editor R. Douglas Hurt, head of the Department of History, Purdue University.

A specialist in American agricultural, rural, western, and midwestern history, Dr. Hurt received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University. Before coming to Purdue he was director of the graduate program in Agricultural History and Rural Studies at Iowa State University and associate director for the State Historical Society of Missouri. He served as editor for Agricultural History and has written, edited, or contributed to more than thirty books. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Hurt as the latest in a distinguished line of Ohio History editors. [End Page 3]
