To the Editor:

We noted with interest and great pleasure Andrew Lamb's informative and comprehensive review of the new Johann Strauss editions on pages 428-34 of the December issue of Notes.

While it is true that Vienna is now distributing the printed scores directly, Alkor-Edition (a subdivion of Bärenreiter) continues to handle performance materials on rental. We realize that Notes is primarily geared toward music librarians mainly concerned with acquisitions, but the many colleges and universities that employ them are also presenters of orchestral concerts (and, thus, concerned with the task of procuring practical performance materials). For the benefit of orchestra librarians, therefore, I would like to confirm that Strauss performance materials are available on rental through Alkor-Edition.

Corrections:

In Styra Avins's review of A Brahms Reader by Michael Musgrave (Notes, December 2002, p. 335), "Max Kalbreck" incorrectly appears as "Ernst Kalbreck."

We regret the error.
