Abstract

Sarpi is one of the most interesting and intriguing thinkers of the early modern age and as such, many of his statements offer different interpretations. How could Sarpi be a religious man and yet support the natural philosophy theories of his time? How did science correlate with religious matters in Sarpi’s thought? What effect did Sarpi’s conception on the immortality of the soul have on religious belief? Was Sarpi a Catholic friar or a heretic? These are some of the questions that I address in my paper providing my interpretation of the Servite friar as natural philosopher and religious man of the 17th century.
