Introduction

Cover art: The cover illustration is from the 568th edition of Der Struwwelpeter printed in Germany toward the end of the nineteenth century. Heinrich Hoffmann himself was the illustrator. The text is by Annis Lee Furness, who translated parts of Struwwelpeter in the nineteenth century.
