Bruce Allen is the Vice-President of Local 199, Niagara District, of the Canadian Auto Workers (caw). A militant activist, Allen is a frequent commentator on trade union developments. He serves on a number of important caw committees and is a delegate to the St. Catharines & District Labour Council.

Jim Barrett is Professor of History and African American Studies and Watt Professorial Scholar in las at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he has taught for the past twenty-nine years. He is the author of The Irish Way: Becoming American in the Multi-Ethnic City (2012), William Z. Foster and the Tragedy of American Radicalism (2000), and Work and Community in the Jungle: Chicago’s Packinghouse Workers, 1894–1922 (1987).

Laurie Laplanche est candidate au doctorat au Département d’information et de communication de l’Université Laval. Après des études en histoire effectuées à Montréal, Leeds et Paris, elle s’intéresse aujourd’hui à la production du magazine télévisé « Femme d’aujourd’hui » diffusé sur les ondes de la Société Radio-Canada entre 1965 et 1982. Andrée Lévesque of the McGill University History Department is one of Québec’s leading historians of women, workers, and the left. Dennis Pilon is an Associate Professor of Political Science at York University. His most recent book Wrestling with Democracy: Voting Systems as Politics in the Twentieth Century West examines the role of the left in influencing the institutional shape and substance of modern democracy.

Mary Anne Poutanen teaches history at Concordia University and in the Program me d’études sur le Québec at McGill University. She is the co-author of A Meeting of the People: School Boards and Protestant Communities in Quebec, 1801–1998 and writes on a range of topics regarding Quebec’s Jewish communities.
