Historians of sexuality represent a real community of scholars, in my opinion, brought together as pioneers by the not far distant origins of the field, a field that was considered mostly as illegitimate until recently, and held together by our fascination with the diversity and complexity of human sexualities in the past. Historians of sexuality often have widespread interests and expertise within the field, and so it is important to share ideas and information in a variety of ways beyond the usual conventions of academia. Please also contact me if you are interested in finding out about participating in future special issues of the Journal of the History of Sexuality. There are increasing numbers of panels about sexuality at scholarly conferences, and these panels often provide wonderful opportunities for scholars from different regions or eras or those using different types of historical sources to engage with each other and discover complementary as well as contrasting views of human sexuality in history. Publishing a nicely linked group of conference papers together might provide important insights for other scholars, and those participating in or presiding over such panels should consider the possibility of a special issue.
