Pp. 181. $5) In this volume the first essay, "Dimensions of Responsibility," relates a group of previously published essays; the second, "Acceptance of Responsibility," first appeared in Mind (1966); the third, "Serf-Discovery, Serf-Realization, Self-Creation" appeared in a 1962 issue of The Journal o/ Humanistic Psychology; and the sixth, "The Good Samaritan and the Law," read at a symposium of the University of Chicago Law School in 1965, was published as a chapter in The Good Samaritan and the Law, edited by James M. Ratcliffe (Anchor Books, 1966). Of special interest for the history of philosophy are the fifth essay "From Oedipus to Orestes," first published in The Psychoanalytic Review (1966) which examines the treatment of responsibility in the Oresteia and the seventh, "Human Community as Holy Rite," first published in the Harvard Theological Review (1966) which emphasizes the "magic" power of ceremony, according to Confucius, and relates it to the immediate power of solemn ceremonies and formal utterances in enhancing responsibility. --H.W.S.
