Rashid Ghazi’s Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football (2011) addresses the Fordson High School football team in Dearborn, Michigan, a team composed of almost entirely of Arab-American Muslims. Ghazi tackles subjects such as being Arab-American in a post-9/11 world, how players practice and play games while fasting during Ramadan, and how a predominantly Muslim school navigates matters of church and state. This essay reads Ghazi’s little-seen documentary as an entry point to discuss the history of Arab Americans in sports.
