Timothy P. Fong is an assistant professor of sociology at Holy Names College in Oakland, California. He is the author of The First Suburban Chinatown: The Remaking of Monterey Park, California (1994); and The Contemporary Asian American Experience: Beyond the Model Minority (1998); and co-editor with Larry H. Shinagawa of Asian Americans: Experiences and Perspectives (forthcoming, 1999).

Haiming Liu is an assistant professor in the Department of Ethnic and Women’s Studies at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He teaches ethnic and Asian American studies courses and is interested in immigration, diaspora, and Chinese American history.

Noriko Shimada is a professor of history and coordinator of the American Studies Program at Japan Women’s University in Tokyo. She is author of Nikkei Amerikajin no taiheiyou sensou (Japanese Americans in the Pacific War).
