This paper deals with the interdependence of historical and aesthetic criteria in the evaluation of the ever expanding body of Holocaust literature. I refer to a variety of significant authors and argue that the Holocaust has changed our view of classical as well as contemporary books and films. It has set new standards for truth and reality in fiction and may have led to the development of new criteria.
