Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies

Vol. 22 (2001) through current issue

Frontiers is one of the oldest and most respected feminist journals in the United States. Frontiers retains its original commitment to a broad mix of scholarly work, personal essays, and the arts and to multicultural and interdisciplinary perspectives offered in accessible language. The cross-disciplinary and culturally diverse nature of the journal's feminist content makes it an ideal source of women's history, cultural theory, literature, essays, art, criticism, and pedagogical approaches.

Submission Guidelines

Frontiers Submission Information

Frontiers encourages submissions in all areas of women’s studies that explore the diversity of women’s lives as shaped by such factors as race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, dis/ability, and place. Submissions must conform to the following guidelines:

Works must be original. Manuscripts that have been previously published, in whole or in part, or are under consideration for publication elsewhere in any version will not be considered.

Authors must submit a hard copy as well as an electronic version saved as a Word or rtf document. Submissions must be word-processed (double spaced, aligned left, with 1-inch margins, and set in 12-point Courier or Courier New) and unstapled. Author names should not appear in the manuscript. List contact information, such as name, address, e-mail, and telephone number, on a separate sheet.

The style of submissions should follow the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, with apparatus conforming to the endnote (not author-date) citation system. Manuscripts, including endnotes, should not exceed 14,000 words.

Artwork

Only copies of original artwork should be submitted for editorial review. Do not send original artwork before your submission has been accepted for publication. Frontiers is not responsible for images submitted with manuscripts before acceptance for publication.

Images, whether original art or illustrations, must be submitted in one of the following ways: preferably high-resolution scans (TIFF files saved at no less than 300 dpi) or black-and-white photographs (5 x 7 in. or 8 x 10 in.). Illustrations should not be submitted as embedded digital images within the manuscript. Include a brief artist’s statement that is word-processed, double spaced, unstapled, and accompanied by a title page.

Include a brief caption for each illustration, including title, medium, and number. List all artwork submitted and contact information for the artist on a separate sheet.

All permissions are the responsibility of the author. Permission to reproduce images that were not originally created by the author must accompany illustrations upon final submission.

Submissions are judged by appropriate members of the editorial team and outside readers, a process that may take up to six months. Authors who wish to have their work returned to them should include a self- addressed, stamped envelope with their submission. If a work is accepted for publication, we reserve the right to edit it, in consultation with the author, in accordance with our space limitations and editorial guidelines. Contributors will receive one copy of the issue in which their work appears. Authors must agree to assign copyright for published material to Frontiers.

All editorial correspondence, including submissions, should be addressed to:
