Abstract

We Are Ohio was successful because it assembled a true coalition of Democrats and Republicans, unionists and nonunionized workers, those hailing from union strongholds like Toledo and conservative regions like Butler County in Ohio’s southwest corner, and those from both rural and urban areas of the state. It framed workers’ rights as a common good and a service to the community, not a budget line or the prerogative of special interests. We Are Ohio focused on cultivating television and press coverage throughout the state and drew on social media to publicize its campaign and develop a cohesive network.
