CONTRIBUTORS TO THIS ISSUE Frank L. Klement, professor of history at Marquette University , is the author of The Limits of Dissent: Clement L. VaIL ·ndigì^am and the Civil War. He is currently at work on a study of secret political societies of the Civil War era. Elisabeth Joan Doyle, associate professor of history at St. John's University, is engaged in a study of the Special Commission which followed up the Stokes investigation in New Orleans .
