A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Civil War History is proud to announce that James I. Robertson, Jr., editor of thejournal since September 1, 1959, has been appointed Executive Director of the Civil War Centennial Commission. Dr. Robertson assumed his new duties in Washington, D.C., on January 1 of this year. With Dr. Robertson as editor, Civil War History established its leadership in the publication of scholarly monographs on the conflict of the 1860"S and in the critical evaluations of its book reviews and special issues on specific themes. Under his direction, circulation and sales more than doubled. These accomplishments are a tribute not only to the high caliber of Dr. Robertson's editorial judgment, but to the enthusiasm and energy he brought to the journal. Dr. Robertson will continue to work closely with Civil War History in an advisory capacity, and before leaving he prepared copy for the remaining three issues for 1962. The June special issue will be the first concentrated study of Civil War prisons in thirty-two years. The September and December issues will carry articles on Ellet's ram fleet, Confederate diplomacy, the Louisiana Zouaves, yeomen discontent in the Southern states, and at least one unusual collection of soldiers' letters . Our regret at the loss of Dr. Robertson as editor is tempered by the knowledge that his effective work for Civil War History was a factor in his selection as Director of the Centennial Commission. We are certain he will bring to that position the same high standards which characterized his direction and editorship of this journal. We believe the readers of Civil War History will agree with us that the Centennial Commission is to be congratulated on its choice. ...
