Abstract:
The technology of 3-D film is perennially hyped, yet it has been largely overlooked in Film Studies. This essay argues that 3-D film violates the essential metaphor of film, and that this limits it to brief periods of success as a spectacle, as opposed to being used for more serious narrative purposes.
