The nominating committee has found it impossible to find a full double slate for next year—a disappointing turn of events. Perhaps we all know of organizations that have come to be run by the same group year after year, a club of cohorts. Often what seems to be a controlling coterie is actually the only group who are willing to commit themselves to becoming candidates for office or for board.

Our stature is growing; it is to the personal advantage of each member to become active. Our fellowship and critical awards, our distinguished Quarterly, our MLA section status, and our international membership of 850 people are all evidence of the importance of ChLA in the profession. Working with the membership is a pleasure. Do think seriously about offering to run for the board or for office.
