EL MENTIDERO DE COMEDIANTES In view of the Copernican revolution taking place in scholarly documentation in our discipline, at least within the domain of the Modern Language Association of America, it seems appropriate that the Editor make a statement about acceptable procedures for items submitted to this journal. Realizing that ours is truly an international association, I propose to continue our stated policy that MLA style is the norm, but since there are now in fad two MLA styles being practiced, and since submissions from abroad tend to follow neither of them, the only reasonable solution seems to be this: we encourage contributors to follow the NEW MLA format, placing the bulk of their documentation in abbreviated form within the text, followed by a list of works cited, but we will also continue to accept articles that follow the Style Sheet format that prevailed previously, and, furthermore, we will accept articles from abroad that follow any sensibly conceived, clear, and consistent format.
