Michele Alperin
Michele Alperin “I am a native Atlantan who started college at Wellesley and finished at the University of Michigan. For three years I was coordinator of Fabrangen and the Jewish Study Center, a D.C. havurah and Jewish adult education center, and over the next decade earned an MBA, got married, and gave birth to a son and daughter. Eventually I got a master’s in Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary, but two years of day school teaching convinced me to play instead to my strengths, and I became a freelance writer and editor.”
Marie Amthor
Marie Amthor is currently completing a Theatre Communications degree at Siena Heights University in Michigan. Although she enjoys writing fiction, her passion is playwrighting. Her pieces have been performed in Michigan and Nebraska. She is currently working on the trilogy of one-acts comprising her show The Space Between. She took the one act Coming Up for Air from the trilogy to the Great Plains Theatre Conference in Nebraska, where she was thrilled to take master classes from Edward Albee, Arthur Kopit, and Emily Mann. Amy André
Amy André has a master’s degree in sexuality studies from San Francisco State University (class of ‘04). A published author and sexuality educator, she’s currently a Point Foundation Scholar at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, where she’s getting an MBA with a focus on nonprofit management. Lyn Graham Barzilai
Lyn Graham Barzilai “I am a Scot living in Israel since 1975, married with children. I received my Ph.D from Haifa University, where I teach English literature, as well as creative writing at college. My poetry appears online in Boxcar Poetry Review and Entertext, and in the poetry anthology Runes. I have published a book on the Jewish-American poet George Oppen, and an article on Rita Dove (also in Entertext). I strongly believe in the power of poetry to further social and political awareness.”
Rachel Berghash
Rachel Berghash was born in Israel, and now lives in New York City. From 1983 to 1987 she produced “A World Elsewhere,” a poetry program broadcast over WBAI. Her interviews with poets have appeared in The American Poetry Review and The Partisan Review. Excerpts from her memoir Without a River or Sea, My Life In and Out of Jerusalem appeared in Crab Orchard Review. Her poems have been published in many magazines including Chicago Review, Israel Horizons, Jewish Frontier, The Comstock Review and Blue Unicorn.
Rachel Amado Bortnick
Rachel Amado Bortnick is a Turkish-born Sepharadic Jew, an ESOL teacher at Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas, and a writer and lecturer on Sephardic subjects in Ladino and English. Her English-language articles include “The Jewish Women of Turkey” (Jewish Folklore and Ethnology Review, Vol. 15, No. 2, 1993, pp. 96-103). Always involved in promoting knowledge of Sephardic culture and the preservation of Ladino, in 1999 she founded “Ladinokomunita” ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ladinokomunita/ ) a Ladinoonly correspondence group, at present with over 900 members from 34 countries. Previously she founded “Los Amigos Sefaradis” in the Bay Area (California),and was featured in a 1989 documentary film,Trees Cry for Rain: a Sephardic Journey, produced by Bonnie Burt.
Stosh Cotler
Stosh Cotler is Director of Leadership Programs at the Jewish Funds for Justice. Since 2005, she has been managing Selah, a national leadership program for Jewish social justice leaders working within and beyond the Jewish community. Immediately prior to joining the Jewish Funds for Justice, Stosh was the Alumni Program Director for AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps where she worked with past AVODAH participants to create an on-going spiritual [End Page 150] and socially active community. Stosh was the founder and director of an anti-violence organization for women and youth.
