Editor's Note

A few brief remarks on some matters that might be of interest:

  • As of Winter 2000, or Volume 23:1, our special issue on the Biopic, Biography is available to individual and institutional subscribers of Project Muse: Scholarly Journals Online, a joint initiative of The Johns Hopkins University Press and the Milton S. Eisenhower Library. The text of the journal, and almost all of the illustrations, from now on will appear online, as well as in print form. The e-ddress for Project Muse is http://muse.jhu.edu;and the e-ddress for the Biography Muse site is http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/bio/.
  • We're also planning on an extensive upgrade of the Center for Biographical Research website sometime during the Summer of 2000. (Those who visit the current one will find themselves in an elephant graveyard.) In addition to providing information about the CBR, and links to a wide variety of sites devoted to life writing, we also intend to post a cumulation of the annual bibliography of life writing, with an accompanying search engine. We are currently beginning to assemble this year's installment of the bibliography. If you have published critical or theoretical work in the field of life writing during 1999 or the first half of 2000, you can make sure we don't overlook it by sending the bibliographical information to biograph@hawaii.edu.
  • In this issue's Lifelines, you will find out how to subscribe to IABA-L, the listserv for the International Auto/Biography Association. The list membership is nearing 300, and it has proved to be not only a good source of information about publishing and conference opportunities, but an excellent research resource as well. The membership is truly international, and the postings tend to be useful, and to the point.
  • And one last note: the Winter 2001 (24:1) Biography will be a special issue, guest-edited by Susanna Egan and Gabriele Helms, on Autobiography and Changing Identity--also the theme of this July's conference at the University of British Columbia.
