Abstract

Independent media makers, social justice organizations, and everyday people are self-documenting the current wave of immigrant rights mobilizations. Some of this self-documentation of struggles is circulated through appropriated corporate space on commercial sites like YouTube and Myspace. While movement media does find broader audiences via these spaces, media activists, cultural workers, and social movements need to develop a clear shared critique of online corporate media, as well as a stronger autonomous communication infrastructure, built in tandem with existing autonomous communication infrastructure, tools and networks.
