Programs for Deaf-Blind Schools and Classes for the Deaf in the United States This section provides information on the programs offered, the students served, and the educational staff employed by U.S. schools and classes for preschool, elementary, and secondary-level deaf children. The listing is alphabetical by state. Under each state is an alpabetical listing, by city, of: (1) schools (residential & day);(2) classes; and (3) facilities for other handicap(s), each listed alphabetically by city. The programs listed here include: (1) those that have reponded to the 1990 Annals questionnaire (with data provided in full); (2) those contacted by telephone (with all but staff data included); and (3) 1989 program listings that neither responded nor could be contacted by telephone in 1990. For the latter programs only names and addresses are provided, and data from these programs are not included in the Tabular Summary of Schools and Classes. Survey forms were sent to all schools and classes listed in the 1989 Reference Issue. Follow-up calls were made to all non-respondents with 25 or more students listed in 1989, and to others identified through statewide search procedures. Note: For the 1991 Reference Issue, data collection will be conducted by the Center for Assessment and Demographic Studies at Gallaudet University. The editors look forward to this cooperative effort which will assure more complete coverage and listings for all programs serving deaf and hearing-impaired children in the United States.
