Abstract

The communication policy of the Arizona State School for the Deaf and the Blind was developed to increase student communication skills in speech, audition, speechreading, and sign language with the ultimate goal of improving language competence. This paper describes the content of the policy, the process of developing it, and the training program for implementation. Implementation of the policy was designed to meet the needs of groups of staff persons organized by the nature of their contact with deaf students. This article includes a specific description of the training model.
