This manuscript reviews the philosophy of a unique but forgotten individual—Martin Buber. Buber's philosophy of mutuality and its relationship to education is described for teachers of the hearing impaired. A brief review of the literature as relates to Buber's positions is presented. Educational programs which have successfully implemented Buber's philosophy to develop written language competencies are briefly described.
