Abstract

The current study surveyed counseling services in programs for the deaf in California. Consequently, the author compiled a state-wide referral guide of community mental health services for hearing-impaired students and their families.

Responses to questionnaires mailed to 54 school programs for the deaf indicated a continuing need for expansion of counseling services within the programs, as well as a need for greater availability of community mental health resources.

Results of the current study are compared to those of a similar study conducted ten years earlier and current recommendations are included. A listing of community mental health agencies in California is also presented.
