This study was to determine if the vocabulary development of deaf children of deaf parents and the vocabulary development of deaf children of hearing parents compared favorably if the hearing parents had conversational sign skills. The presented data indicate that the process of vocabulary development occurs in a similar fashion for young deaf children whether they have deaf or hearing parents, as long as fluent communication is established in the home.
