The objective of this paper is to provide a functional approach to the concept of "computer assisted education," or as the title phrases it, "computer assisted remediation and enrichment." The overall purpose of the paper is to:
1. Provide a systematic way to categorize the kinds of software which are suitable for educational use, and to cite general and specific examples of software which is available;
2. Describe the author's "approach to" and "experience with" the use of microcomputers in the high school setting (software selection/adaptation, classroom practices/procedures, and related matters); and
3. Make use of the above in order to provide an organizational framework to assist the educator-user of microcomputers in the process of thinking through and implementing microcomputer usage in the classroom.
