Submission Guidelines
Journal of Chinese Overseas (JCO) is published in English twice a year in May and November. It carries academic articles on Chinese overseas worldwide. Topics on places in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan where the emigrant communities originate, and articles on people of non-Han origins in diaspora who can trace their ancestry to China will also be considered. In addition to wellresearched articles, the journal also publishes research reports and book reviews.
Articles submitted to JCO should be 20–35 doubled-spaced pages in length. Where appropriate, photographs to be printed in black and white are welcome. The author’s name and affiliation should appear on a separate title page only. A biodata of not more than 80 words including an email address, if available, should be sent together with the submission. The editors will arrange for each submission to be anonymously refereed by two scholars who are specialists in the relevant fields of study. If accepted, the author will be asked to submit the final revised version together with an abstract of 100-150 words.
A research report should not exceed 20 pages, double-spaced, and should contain original data. Unlike a full-length article, a research report need not be presented in a clear theoretical context. Research reports will be reviewed by the editors, and where necessary, in consultation with a relevant member of the editorial board.
A book review should contain 800-1,200 words.
Manuscripts should be submitted electronically if possible, as an email attachment using MS Word or RTF. If submission is by regular mail, three copies of the manuscript and a disk in MS Word are required.
Submissions (one copy each) should be sent to the editor: Prof. Tan Chee-Beng (cbtan@cuhk.edu.hk). For more information about JCO and manuscript format, and any queries or comments, please send your message to Dr. Kwan Siu Hing at jco@ntu.edu.sg
Books for review as well as submissions by post should be sent to: Journal of Chinese Overseas, Chinese Heritage Centre, 12 Nanyang Drive (Nanyang Technological University), Singapore 637721.
