The Société Guilhem IX seeks to disseminate information about Occitan, Provençal, and Langue d’Oc of the medieval and modern periods, to facilitate communication between scholars interested in these subjects, and to encourage the study of the language, literature, and culture of southern France. TENSO: Bulletin of the Société Guilhem IX (ISSN 0890-3352) is published annually. It publishes articles on any aspect of Occitan studies, including literature, language, linguistics, and music, and includes as regular features scholarly articles, critical editions, translations, original verse in Occitan, book reviews, announcements, and bibliographical information. While English is the primary language, it also accepts items in French, Occitan, Catalan, Spanish, Italian and German.

Manuscripts should be typewritten and double-spaced throughout, including notes and quotations. Notes should be included as text, at the end of the article, not inserted into the document with any footnote or endnote utility. Quotations from literary texts should be given in the original language. Troubadour lyrics should be identified by the Pillet-Carstens (PC) number. It may be also be desirable to identify the piece by the number assigned it in a standard edition (e.g., Bernart de Ventadorn, “Non es meravelha s’eu chan” [PC 70,31; Lazar 1]). Readers are advised to consult Tenso 23 (2008), 148-52, for more detailed information on preparing submissions.

Submissions should follow the MLA style, as described in Walter S. Achtert and Joseph Gibaldi’s The MLA Style Manual, 6th ed. (New York: The Modern Language Association of America, 2003). ln general, submissions should not exceed a maximum length of 5000 words (roughly 20 pages), but longer manuscripts will be considered. Evaluation of submissions will be blind. Your name and institutional affiliation should NOT appear on any page of the manuscript itself. The title of the submission must appear on the manuscript’s first page; an abbreviated title is recommended on every page of the submission. Attach to the manuscript a cover sheet with the submittor’s name, academic affiliation, mailing address, telephone, fax, e-mail, and the complete title of the submission. Please submit an original and a xerox copy of your manuscript. Submissions will not be returned.

TENSO strongly encourages submissions in electronic form, provided they are accompanied by a hard copy (preferably laser-printed). TENSO uses Microsoft Word for Windows 95, 97, 2000, and XP. TENSO can convert other word-processing software (WordPerfect, etc.). Musical examples must be in an electronic format supported by PageMaker 7.
