Robert H. Mohlenbrock is in his sixtieth year of plant study. After receiving his doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis, Mohlenbrock taught botany and plant taxonomy at Southern Illinois University for thirty-four years, sixteen of which he served as chairman of the department. During his career at SIU Carbondale , he was major professor for ninety graduate students and carried out a vigorous program of research. To date, his research has resulted in the publication of fifty-eight books and more than five hundred other publications. Since 1984, he has written “This Land,” a monthly column for Natural History, published by the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Since retiring from SIU in 1990, Mohlenbrock has been a senior scientist for Biotic Consultants Inc., where he teaches weeklong wetland plant identification classes for government employees and consultants throughout the country. ...
