261 About the Author Christian Knoeller has taught college English in the Midwest since completing his PhD at UC Berkeley in 1993 and is currently associate professor of English at Purdue where he teaches Reading the Midwest: Engaging Place in Literature and Teaching, a graduate seminar examining midwestern literature from an interdisciplinary, ecocritical perspective emphasizing environmental history. He has received the Midwestern Heri­tage Prize for Literary Criticism and the Gwendolyn Brooks Prize for ­ Poetry from the Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature (ssml). He is also the author of the scholarly monograph Voicing Ourselves in the State University of New York (suny) Series in Literacy, Culture, and Learning and Completing the Circle, a collection of poems awarded the Millennium Prize.
