249 CONTRIBUTORS Ana Rosa Duarte Duarte holds a doctorate in social anthropology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalaba. She is a research professor in the Social Sciences Unit of the “Dr. Hideyo Noguchi” Regional Research Center at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, cofounder of the community-based media arts organization Yoochel Kaaj, and founding member of the Turix Collective. Her research interests include Mayan knowledge andculture,Mayanself-identityandrepresentation,andinterculturalrelations in the Mexican Southeast. She is also cofounder of Llovizna Viajera, a cultural collective that seeks the creation and promotion of art and media productions by Mexican and Mexican-Canadian artists. Ingrid Kummels is professor of cultural and social anthropology at the Institute for Latin American Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. She has conducted long-term ethnographic research in Mexico, Cuba, Peru, and the United States, focusing on migration, transnational family relations, and community building, as well as media and visual anthropology. She is also a filmmaker who has codirected several films with Manfred Schäfer. Elías Barón Levín Rojo is research professor at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco and founder of La Pirinola A.C. He is a member of Yoochel Kaaj and coorganizer of the Soft Geographies Regional Film and Video Festival in Mérida, Yucatán. He is an independent curator and a specialist in electronic art and video, as well as a journalist, writer, and producer of video and educational programs. He has served as coordinator for the Multimedia Department at the Sciences and Arts Museum at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, the Video Department of the Carrillo Gil Museum of Contemporary Art, and the residents program at the Mexican Natural Sciences Museum. Freya Schiwy is associate professor of media and cultural studies at the University of California, Riverside. She is author of Indianizing Film: Decolonization , the Andes, and the Question of Technology (2009).
