The text is taken from a talk given on April 9, 2014, at MiCo Milano Congressi , in the context of a public conference on the topic of Europe, on the occasion of the European parliamentary elections. An earlier version was published in Tracce: Litterae Communionis, no. 5 (May 2014). 2. Truth and Freedom: A Paradigm The text elaborates on a lecture delivered on July 29, 2014, in La Thuile, during the Spiritual Exercises for the Memores Domini (unpublished). 3. In the Collapse of the Self-Evident, a Subject Is Generated This text was drawn from a lecture delivered on November 5, 2014, in Pacengo del Garda, at the conclusion of the annual spiritual exercises for CL priests. An earlier version was published in Tracce: Litterae Communionis, no. 11 (December 2014). 4. The Challenge of True Dialogue after the Charlie Hebdo Attacks This text was drawn from an article printed in the Corriere della Sera on February 13, 2015, one month after the January 13 attacks in Paris. Christianity Faced with the Challenges of the Present This text was taken from and further elaborates upon a presentation given on November 19, 2010, in Madrid, as part of the Congress entitled “Catholics and Public Life,” organized by the Fundación Universitaria San Pablo CEU (unpublished). 6. The Religious Sense, Verification of Faith The text was drawn from remarks given on January 26, 2011, at PalaSharp in Milan, as part of the presentation of Luigi Giussani’s book The Religious Sense. An earlier version appeared in Tracce: Litterae Communionis, no. 2 (February 2011). 7. The “Eternal Myster y of Our Being” The text is a partial reproduction of the contents of the first lesson delivered in Rimini on April 30, 2011, during the annual Spiritual Exercises for the Fraternity of Communion and Liberation (published in the supplement to Tracce: Litterae Communionis, no. 5 [May 2011]). 8. Broadening Reason The text elaborates on the contents of two talks, one delivered on October 26, 2006, at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan at an Sources 259 260 Sources event marking the publication of the Arabic-language edition of Luigi Giussani ’s The Religious Sense (published in Allargare la Ragione, ed. Alessandro Gamba [Milan: Vita e Pensiero, 2007], 21–38, and as a supplement to Tracce-Litterae Communionis, no. 1 [January 2007]), and the other on December 18, 2006, at the Università degli Studi of Florence on the topic “university and education” (unpublished). 9. Freedom Is the Most Precious Gift Heaven Gave to Humanity The text is drawn from a presentation given on August 22, 2005, in Rimini during the 26th Meeting for the Friendship amongst Peoples, entitled “La libertà è il bene più grande che i cieli abbiano donato agli uomini” (Freedom Is the Greatest Good the Heavens Have Given to Humanity).
