STANLEY RITCHIE is a professor of music at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He was born and educated in Australia, graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1956. In 1963 he was appointed concertmaster of the New York City Opera, and then served as associate concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera from 1965 to 1970. In 1975 he joined the Philadelphia String as first violinist and in 1982, accepted his current appointment at Indiana University. He is a leading exponent of Baroque and Classical violin playing whose interest in historical performance dates from 1970. In June 2009, he received Early Music America’s highest award, the Howard Mayer Brown Award for Lifetime Achievement in Early Music. In April 2016 he was promoted by the President of Indiana University to the rank of Distinguished Professor. ...
