Note on the Edition The English translation of 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 was provided by the author; it reflects his exegetical decisions . Other biblical texts are usually quoted from the Revised Standard Version. Unless indicated otherwise, quotations from Greek and Latin authors follow the editions and translations of the Loeb Classical Library. The endpapers of this volume reproduce the section of2 Corinthians 8 and 9 in johannJakob Wettstein's famous 1751-52 edition of the Novum Testamentum Graecum with its textual apparatus and collection of philological and literary parallels from ancient literature . One of the founders of critical and historical New Testament scholarship, Wettstein (1693-1754) taught at the university of his hometown, Basel, and, after his dismissal because of his views on textual criticism, at the university of Amsterdam. The Hermeneia Commentary series, especially the present volume, is indebted to the tradition of scholarship symbolized by Wettstein and continues it in the twentieth century. xxvi ...
