Ab out the Authors Linda Adler-Kassner is professor of writing studies and director of the writing program at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focusing on the study of and practice with writing in disciplinary and civic contexts . Her research focuses on strategies for making knowledge practices more visible for practitioners and learners within the university and publics beyond. This includes work on threshold concepts, remodeling general education, and helping writing instructors and program directors develop alliances and communicate with others. She is author, coauthor, or coeditor of nine books and many articles and book chapters. She is currently assistant chair of the Conference on College Composition and Communication. Elizabeth Wardle is professor and chair of the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at the University of Central Florida, where she teaches courses such as Writing with Communities and Nonprofits, Rhetoric and Civic Engagement, First-Year Composition, and graduate seminars on composition theory and writing program administration. She is the coauthor of Writing about Writing as well as a variety of articles and book chapters on first-year composition, transfer, and genre theory. Chris M. Anson is Distinguished University Professor and director of the campus writing and speaking program at North Carolina State University, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in language, composition, and literacy and works with faculty across the disciplines to reform undergraduate education in the areas of writing and speaking. He has published fifteen books and over one hundred articles and book chapters relating to writing and has spoken widely across the United States and in twenty-eight other countries. She has edited numerous special issues of digital writing studies journals and several book collections, including the award-winning The New Work of Composing (CCDP, 2012). She regularly publishes on digital scholarship, multimodal composition, editorial pedagogy, and academic professionalization in peer-reviewed and popular venues, including several textbooks on visual and multimodal rhetorics, such as Writer/Designer: A Guide to Making Multimodal Projects (with coauthors Kristin Arola and Jenny Sheppard) (Bedford, 2014). Charles Bazerman is professor of education at the University of California Santa Barbara, Steering Committee chair of the International Society for the Advancement of Writing Research, and recent chair of the Conference of College Composition and Communication. Collin Brooke is associate professor of rhetoric and writing at Syracuse University. Allison Carr is assistant professor of rhetoric at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she teaches classes in cultural studies, rhetoric of all kinds, and nonfiction writing, and where she also serves as director of the writing program. She received her PhD from the University of Cincinnati in 2014, writing a dissertation exploring the emotional content of failure in the writing classroom and advocating for pedagogies of writing that more openly and intentionally engage failure as a strategy for learning. Her work has appeared in CCC, Composition Forum, and Computers and Composition Online. She tweets about writing, language, baseball, food, and other matters @hors_doeuvre. Colin Charlton is associate professor of rhetoric, composition, and literacy studies at the University of Texas-Pan American, where he also directs first-year writing programs. That work has led him to design immersive and interactive classroom spaces for the writing program and to launch and coedit Crosspol: A Journal of Transitions for High School and College Writers. He has published on developmental reading and writing, writing program administration, and multimodality. Currently, he’s working on a new kind of developmental textbook and a multimodal “coffee-table book” about the scenes of writing, learning, and teaching.
